Town keeper Tomas Holy can’t wait for tomorrow’s home clash with Rotherham, which he sees as an ideal opportunity to atone for Sunday’s 2-0 defeat at lowly Accrington.

That reverse ended the club’s proud, 11-game unbeaten league record, but Holy & Co remain a point clear at the top of League One and will be looking to bounce back with a victory over the Millers under the Portman Road floodlights.

Holy, 27, said: “It is a good thing that we have had very little time to think about the Accrington game because we have been concentrating on preparing for the game against Rotherham.

“That is a good thing for me and all the players. The best thing is to get back out there again and play. It is the best way to forget what happened on Sunday.

"It was painful on Sunday but that’s what can happen in football. I have to be honest and admit we didn’t deserve to win that game.

“We didn’t play as well as we did in the previous games so we have to get back to basics when we play Rotherham.

“The best answer for Sunday’s result will be a good performance and a win over Rotherham. That is what we will be trying to achieve.”

Holy made no attempt to look for excuses for Town’s below-par display against a side that went into the game with just two wins from their previous 12 league games and who had been without a clean sheet in 18 games at the Wham Stadium since a goalless draw with Bristol Rovers back in January this year.

The 6ft 9ins tall keeper added: “I don’t think it was because of the international break and the fact that we didn’t have a game the previous week, or the fact that we had some players missing through injury and suspension.

“I know we don’t have a good record when games are live on TV but it wasn’t down to that either.

“Sometimes you just have a bad day and it can happen to any team at any level. Also, you have to say Accrington played well on the day and give them credit for that.

“But that game is in the past now and we must look to move forward with our chins up. Like I said, the best answer will be a great result against Rotherham.”

Asked if Sunday’s result had prompted a team meeting, he replied: “No, there was no meeting between the players. I think the gaffer summed it up pretty well and I agree with his words after the game.

“That sort of thing happens in football all the time. In my opinion the season is too long for a team to stay unbeaten from the start to the finish.

“It would be brilliant to do that but it’s very tough to achieve, no matter your level. We are at the top of the league and that means every team wants to beat us.

“We are maybe the biggest club in League One and teams will raise their game against us, which makes our task that bit more difficult.

“The other teams, like Accrington for example, probably go into games against us thinking they have nothing to lose.

“We lost, the unbeaten record has gone and we can’t bring it back. It was our first loss in 12 league games and that is still a great record in that time, a great start to the season. If we get a win tomorrow there is nothing to talk about.”

Holy also admitted that he was unhappy with his own display in front of the Sky TV cameras, adding: “I was not happy with either the result or my performance so it is great to have another game in the space of just three days. We hope to put things right by beating Rotherham and if we do I will sleep nicely again.”

JewellintheTown added 17:00 - Oct 22 "That sort of thing happens in football all the time" only happens if the players let it. It wasn't like they played brilliant and unfairly lost to fluke goals. They played rubbish TBH and got what they deserved. Fans didn't though. We move on, but if the team aren't feeling guilty, it sounds like this will happen again. Fair enough not to dwell on it and not let it eat you up, but to dismiss it like I keep hearing as one of those blips and eventually going to happen is letting people off lightly. Couldn't see Sir Alex Fergy letting that drop. He wouldn't have been so complacent with that performance.
